![]() These features are so basic and innate, you shouldn't be paying premium for a "top tier" "competitive" GPU and be stuck without them. Anyone with a brain or basic eye for detail will notice how BAD certain games look compared to Nvidia once they switch over. Even if it (AA, AF etc) may seem insignificant in a literal sense, to you, which it isn't, you're just a shill shows they don't really care, or put effort into user experience/freedom like Nvidia does. If you can't look out for fine details/functions and neglect them completely (compared to your major competitor) as I described here, you don't deserve to be "a top brand". I guarantee my opinion is widely supported. I don't understand how you don't have these basic functionalities after a decade plus. Anyway to make these settings work correctly or force AO in games? Honestly contemplating taking this clown card back and buying one with basic driver/game customization. ![]() IT'S Almost like it's on purpose, extremely low power draw, compared to Nvidias top contender with around the same performance, half the price, yet doesn't come with basic functionality and driver freedom/customization like Nvidia. Is this a Joke? Is AMD trolling? I finally give them a chance and I can't even put AO in a game to make it not look like Dog Dirt, while Nvidia's been doing it for a decade. ![]() On DX9,10, 11, ,12 Make any game look amazing. On Nvidia you could Force, AF, AO (AMD doesn't even have that option), LOD BIAS, Texture filtering etc etc. Old/some Games look absolute garbage, If a game doesn't natural support antistrophic filtering, ambient occlusion, Texture filtering etc, and it's not DX9 (even DX9 GAMES barely seem to work with these settings forced in CP, I swear they do nothing at all) nothing you can do about it, you have to play a disgusting looking sad exscuse for a game. Throughout the rest of the guide, I'll end up explaining what most of them do.I just got a 6950XT, recently coming from Nvidia, I had a 2080TI and the performance uplift is HUGE, that being said, even with the massively increased performance, I am extremely angered and agitated with AMDs incompetence. If you wish to simply copy my settings, feel free to. This is my recommended userconfig for Half-Life. (Make sure you replace the "txt" extension with the "cfg" extension.)Īny commands you put in here will be executed when the game starts up, or when you apply settings in the options menu. If it does not exist, create it by making a new text file and renaming it to " userconfig.cfg"! You should now have the Steam "Half-Life" folder open in your file explorer.Go to the "Local Files" tab and select "Browse".Find Half-Life in your Steam Library game list. How does one do such a thing? I'm so glad you asked!įirstly: we will access / create our config file! (Many commands don't archive automatically when entered through the console.) 4/24/22 - Updated the recommended FOV to 107 (previously was 120)Īny changes you make to settings via commands should be saved in a configuration file to ensure these settings are applied each time the game starts up.I have also attempted to keep this guide free of anything that could be considered a spoiler, for people on their first play-through.Īny console commands provided here can be saved with either method shown below! The exception being launch parameters, which must be put in your game's launch options. ![]() ![]() This guide may be labeled as a Half-Life guide but, many of the settings here will apply to multiple or even all games running on the GoldSrc engine (such as Counter-Strike, Team Fortress: Classic, and the almighty Ricochet). This guide will inform you of the options you have at your disposal! While Valve has done a pretty good job of keeping their classic titles up-to-date for modern machines, it's become obvious to me over my time as a Half-Life enthusiast that some of the settings these games ship with are sub-optimal. I'll update it soon to reflect the changes. NOTE: This guide has not been updated for the 25th anniversary! Some of the problems described here have been fixed. ![]()
